It is an add on to accommodate the 14 wire nuts. Code requires the use of Gorilla tape, but some electricians use black tape instead. What kind of box is that held together with black tape?
I've never seen a Carlon box in this configuration. What code section is Gorilla Tape found? It is an add on to accommodate the 14 wire nuts. Code requires the use of Gorilla tape, but some electricians use black tape instead.

Very good Steve, 300.4(D) is correct even though you are not the OP.
Thanks... I read the same thing and believe the NMC should be protected the full length. I have a counter argument that say it need protection where it's secured by staples. What's your interpretation? Thanks.300.4(D) Cables and Raceways Parallel to Framing Members and Furring Strips.
In both exposed and concealed locations, where a cable- or raceway-type wiring method is installed parallel to framing members, such as joists, rafters, or studs, or is installed parallel to furring strips, the cable or raceway shall be installed and supported so that the nearest outside surface of the cable or raceway is not less than 32 mm (11⁄4 in.) from the nearest edge of the framing member or furring strips where nails or screws are likely to penetrate. Where this distance cannot be maintained, the cable or raceway shall be protected from penetration by nails or screws by a steel plate, sleeve, or equivalent at least 1.6 mm (1⁄16 in.) thick.
I didn't install the work, it was brought to my attention and I thought it was strange. It will be sheetrock on both sides of the box . A finish basement.Sorry, OP, but. why would you install 2xs in that fashion?

Roger it appears you shouldn't make assumptions. I have directions and I have an interpretation of what I read. I want someone else thought without offering my perspective. No apologies needed Steve, it appears the
