Romex sheathing in a box

The rule for leaving a 1/4" of sheathing on the cable on the inside of the box probably stemmed from those who always cut too much sheathing off.

To me the exact measurement of at least 1/4" of sheathing on the inside of the box is not really critical as long as there is at least some.

I agree, the 1/4" was never required for these until now.

Since the clamp is on the outside the 1/4" past the connector is unnecessary and most likely unsubstantiated when it was approved as a code change.

I still make sure the sheath extends past the sharp edge.

Although previously it was never required I would do that too. I've never found those edges to be any sharper than an EMT connector.

That ought to have a max also. I have seen so much sheathing that it would count as another 2 wires. LOL..... I was think, 1" max
