Room controller blown up

Would an over amp cause this?? My wiring was solid . Only the room controller was torced

ah, pictures! yes, overamperage can cause that type of damage. I've also seen a lot of thermostats fail when mounted on exterior walls/high humidity environments - there could have been corrosion on the contacts/board that hastened its failure.

or like fullthrotl wrote, just a cheap part that went up to that big smoke wisp in the sky.
