I agree with Bennie, energizing an incompleted cicuit is a bad idea.
I also know if I cut a water pipe it wouldn't be the plumbers problem.
I use a roto-zip myself for lights on existing drywall. I always check what's on the other side of the wall (or ceiling usually).
