wondering how people set up rough wiring for radiant floor heat.

in the past I've wired a box and then left a string from the bottom of the box to the floor. Then either I or floor guys pull up the heating cables and thermostat.

Recently I saw one brand asking for thermostat to be run in a separate pipe.

Does anyone do this?

If the wall is open, I use a deep 1900 bracket box with mud ring, then chisel out the bottom plate at an angle, and drop a 1/2" flex that gets turned out right at the subfloor. Stick it out 1/2" so that it's flush with the drywall.

I've also used smurf tube fished down from a deep cut-in box if the drywall is still on. Still chisel out the bottom plate at an angle so it can be strapped. Smurf tube is much easier to cut flush with the drywall if it's still on

thanks for the reply,

Do you use the flex for both the heating cable and and the sensor cable? and if so do you run separate flex's or do you put them both in the same one?

If you use smurf tube, use the lock ring style instead of snap-in. It's easier to get the connector into the box k.o.

The thermostat in my experience tends to get it's own piece of flex to get down to the floor.
