I am running THHN through greenfield to a j-box mounted on a wall. In the box, it splices to NM cable and enters the wall through the back of the box. Is this legal? Or does the NM need to be clamped somehow before entering the wall?

Need more info. You say j-box, is this for a switch or outlet, or just a junction? Is this a metal box, plastic, or fiberglass? Sounds like you are putting this on the surface of the wall and not "in" the wall. What is the purpose for the new box? Why greenfield? What are you installing the greenfield to?

May I ask, what do you do for a living?
