I think your reply was well written, When I see a question like this I also look at there member numerr and profile. I does burn me that some of these DIY's list themselves as "electricians" or "previous electrical apprentice"
Giving helpful information to a stranger in todays legal world could backfire. But I think also as professionals we should steer these DIY's to call a Licensed Electricican and not rely on what FREE ADVICE they may get from a web page. Advice is cheap, lawsuits are expensive.

Are these things rated for NM? What else are they rated for? I have a couple on the underhood fender well of my Jeep-- they came from the Jeep factory to hold the leads from the starter solenoid :)

PS: If you're covering up the walls why not fasten the romex to the furring & strapping?

I don't want to get in an endless loop here, but you restated my question which remains unanswered.

There was nothing on the TB site to indicate their exact intended usage. Just about everything short of a screw or nail has a UL (or other) label and an intended usage.

Here is something else to think about.

by offering help to another qualified electrician, he can make some very difficult decisions that by nature of this forum only he can 'see'.
Now we help a DIY person and he cannot 'see' the site related situation as a person of experience can. Do you become responsible for the liability if some gets hurt/killed or the building burns? Most of us can be traced here, where does this go? I don't know!

Pierre

P.S. If the do it yourself guy wants help, why not call someone to his house.

Pierre.
I was once told that a police officer told a home owner that if a person were to break into his house he could shoot them in protecting his property. as the home owner found out that in doing so he was charged with voluntary manslaughter, as he intended to shoot the invader with the intent to kill. The home owner was found guilty and went to jail,as it was his responsibility to know the law. the officer did get reprimanded but was not charged criminally nor was he found liable in a law suit that followed as the home owner should of checked the law to see if this was the truth. This was told to me by a lawyer that tried the law suit for the family of the robber.
Yes in published book or maybe a web-site that charges for this type of advice, but I don't see that happening in an open public forum where at most it would be hear-say. In most liability cases that I even know of it was because of the person who was in charge of the work and those who were doing the work who were found responsible. We are always allowed to give advice and even when we give good advice how could we be responsible if this person didn't follow it. this would mean that even when we tell them to get an electrician we could be responsible when they didn't and did it on there own. I don't think it would fly in court. as there many publishing's out there that give bad advice and you never here of them getting sued as they hide behind the first amendment. Look at todays music that kids listen to. there have been many of these kids try to claim that the song caused them to commit the crime, you don't here any law suits going after the bands do you. But as Mike does charge (and is well worth it I might add) for his advice and he does own this site it is his call so I will adhere to it.

Wayne:
My intentions are to get a visual representation of what wiring is looking for. He still has not responded, but I want to know if we are on the right track. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the use of these. I just want to know what this thing looks like that he is refering to. My interest is peaking...lol.

hurk27:
To append to your commentary, this snip from Mike Holt's Forum disclaimer should be all too clear:

It should be noted that any comments made in this forum are personal opinions[/] and represent personal responses as requested. Any opinion must not be considered as a Formal Interpretation of the NEC? and is not to be considered as an official position of Mike Holt, Mike Holt Enterprises, Inc., the NFPA, the NEC? Technical Correlating Committee, any of its Code Making Panels, or any other company or organization.

Installers, contractors and electricians are to comply with local laws and ordinances, including permits and inspections where required. This forum is for Contractors, Electricians, Engineers, Inspectors, Instructors and other electrically related individuals. It is not a site for do-it -yourselfers.
To all:
Just a thought, would bridal rings need to be grounded if they were used to support the romex, or could they even be used at all? Again not a recommendation for wiring, just a question.

Re: running cables to main panel

those TB devices are kind of what I had in mind. After thinking about the project more and considering other alternatives, I won't be going that route. After cutting away more drywall that is installed on the basement ceiling, I have found adequate space in the rafters to run the cable and secure it to the framing. This eliminates any problems with potential damage to the cables.

Hi Wayne I will have to admit I was throwing out a hook with this.

Do they need to be?
I find no listings in the UL white book for NM supports.
