Running MC and changing over to EMT

I am running MC for HR and changing over to EMT to go down walls. I am using an MC connector to 1/2" rigid coupling to EMT connector. I am doing this in an acoustic ceiling. I will be accesible to work on. I am being told by an Inspector that this is not legal.

I've always run HR's in EMT, then convert to MC down walls.
Are you stripping 8-10' of MC to sleeve into the EMT?
Why would you do this?

Some assert that if the wires inside the MC are not marked with type information they cannot be stripped out and run outside the sheath. Are yours marked?

You should ask him why. This is a pretty picky complaint.

The most subtle response I can give you (from a manufacturers perspective) is see GoldDiggers response. It is accurate.

What?

Are you suggesting we can't run MC in conduit due to the markings on it?

No I am suggesting you can't STRIP out MC and run it inside the EMT unless the conductors are marked. (but FYI- most are marked so I contradict myself...)

But I already know you disagree with that and I don't want to explain how I know why..

That was his statement wasn't it...or did I quote the wrong dude?
Right dude.
And the much more common issue is with NM, where the wires inside are generally not marked.
Even though the manufacturer may provide you with type information for them, they are not compliant unless marked.

Yep. As part of UL 1569 the inner conductors of MC Cable used in branch circuits are required to be marked and of the type THHN,THWN/THWN-2 or XHHW/XHHW-2.
