Running NM on edge of sill plate

Clearly indicated as not permitted in the NEC. As Bob stated keeps people from hanging stuff from it.
But you can drill the joists and run the NM through the drilled holes....it works even better for hanging things when you do it that way as you have supports every 16" :)
 
Over the years tension on stapled NM cable has damaged the cable,

Hmmm ??? .. guessing that may be why I once saw an nm 2 wire running across the bottom of the joist with roofing nails driven through the center of it instead of staples.
