I want to install an outdoor receptacle in the back yard, mostly by running 12/3 UF (underground feeder) cable through 1 inch PVC conduit buried in a trench that's about 2 feet deep. The problem has to do with getting past an obstacle; namely, I'm trying to find the easiest way of getting the cable across a cement patio that's in the way. The cement patio is about 8 feet across. Well, as it so happens, there's an old abandoned 3/4 inch galvanized water pipe running under the patio just where I want the electric cable to run. Well, obviously you can't run UF cable through the galvanized water pipe because the water pipe is not a listed conduit, and the galvanized water pipe could damage UF cable if the cable is pulled through it. :happysad: Moreover, it's not going to be possible to pull the water pipe out from under the cement patio to create an air space. So the question is this. I see where there is specialized MC (metal clad) 12/2 and 12/3 cable on the market that is specially rated for wet locations and direct burial. The 3/4 inch water pipe is straight -- no bends, no elbows. Can I simply run MC cable that's rated for direct burial and wet locations through the water pipe without running afoul of the NEC (Article 300, et. seq.)?
Thank you!
