Running up the chimney

I imagine we're talking about an abandoned chimney.

But it's prompted me to look at 300.22(A) (which doesn't apply to this situation, IMO, since I assuming the chimney is abandoned.) But I still wonder about the "why" behind this section. Any thoughts, guesses, cold hard facts?

I'd agree 300.22(A) does not apply to the situation.

George, I read 300.22(A) as the ducts that are used in a factory to transport dust/wood/other stuff from equipment.

Right, but why? What hazard does dust present to wiring, or wiring present to the duct (or input or output of the duct?)
