I know in the code it says splices can be soldered
-but what are they referring to when it says "unless approved splicing devices are used?" I'ld like to know what these "approved splicing devices" are...Darren

we refer to these devices as a "monkey Face"
It provides a romex type connector on one end and a 3 holed ceramic insulator on the other for the romex conductors to go thru.

Very common on in our part of the country.

Now the proper name for them I dont know.
We usually run a new circuit.

I think I have one of those 'monkey faces' in my possession....iwire...was it you who provided the link for photos (if so, I took a couple of photos, you can choose which is the best).
