One tapped feeder for me, too. Maybe even a panel if there's the possibility of any future additional loads.

First I would ask if both compressors must run simultaneously, often they do not.

Many times they alternate so the feeder could be reduced. I would give the customer the option and make sure they understood what it means.

Other then that I would go one large feeder right to disconnects.

I asked the same - but at 95a running - the inrush for a motor that big, both combined would be huge for say 1/0-3/0cu - then there is a voltage drop to consider.....

With a little control work it could be done - but I have no idea what the compressors are for.....

Panel wouldnt be a bad idea - but you would have to size it for well over the two loads combined - yes? The feeder to a tap would be 100% of the sum, and 25% of the largest - not looking now, but a feeder to a panel would be simular or smaller sized....

Also be sure to inform him that he needs to be assured that the O.D. of *any* conduit used must exceed the I.D. or else the hole will be on the outside of the pipe.

THAT is just delicious!

I don't see the harm in recommending one feed or two.

If they start asking what size wire, etc.... I also recommend giving them Jim's number.

Don't know where you guys are going.... (But if the beers good...)

And thats the question - "Would you do two runs sized for 95a @ 125% for 250' - or one run for both?" - Me still trying to sort out 'tap rules, the job I'm going to, whats 4/0 in the table? - derating would apply if in one conduit, 2 circuits'

Me - "Sorry gotta go - I would do one run as a feeder - tap in a gutter between them both to two disconnects - but you have to check the tap rules.... Gotta go..."

How did you feel about the guy at the counter asking about the install? Qualified, Unqaulified? I guess one of your questions was if you should even bother if the answer you would have to give is complex.

Advice among qualifeid individuals or was one heading for trouble?

If the guy even thought to thank you, for the motor "refresher", would we all feel better ?

I get these from time to time.... Guy you don't know asks very knowagable counter guy a question - counter guy looks at you - do you answer or what? If you answer what do you say?

Heres the question:
Got 2 HUGE compressors - both identical - 95a each according to table values - a 250' run overhead inside.
I voted other because I would have said "Why dont you call an electrician?"

why would you want to run single feed..anywhere where you are running a setup like this will get an upgrade normally with in five years then you need to re-pipe the whole install..good for EC bad for customer..yet EC's need to make living as well..beside most MCC's are remote..Hmm don't have enough info..

Sure, I talk to other people while at the supply counter. News, weather, sports.

He didn't ask about part selection. He didn't even ask about sizing. Think about, the guy wanted the counter help to tell him how to lay out the job.

Counter guy (regardless of his own experience) passed the buck over to another EC. Why? I say, because he (a) didn't have time, and (b) it's better to give no advise on something with little information, than to give bad advice.

I voted "other".
