I'm looking for a replacement safety cane for my safety boards. The current wooden canes don't meet the standards I have to follow, the hook end can't be more than 180 degrees and cannot be varnished. There are very expensive ones out there, ($300 and up). Is there one out there for under $30? Thanks for any help.

I believe you are refering to a "Rescue hook". A+ Electrical safety equipment has one for about $165, that is as inexpensive as you will find.
The type of hook you need really depends on the voltage levels involved, for low voltage (<600V) a wooden hookstick would probally work but needs to be tested every 2 years to ensure it has not lowered its resistive qualities.

A. I prefer candy canes.
B. And at the risk of sounding sarcastic, If it is my butt your going to save opt for the more expensive one, as I assume it is a better quality and hopefully will not break at a critical time.

I'll not disagree that "typically" we get what we pay for however, I wouldn't agree that price should be the determining factor. Sometimes high quality can come at a low price. Best to judge by the value (quality and price) rather than just price.
