Salary requirments

$57k sounds cheap.

I would be concerned about the long term viability of this kind of venture. What happens if a year or two down the road they close it down as a money loser?

You should not need a truck, as manager you should be interviewing the subs, and hire the ones needed for the projects at hand, if you have a truck and tools, your not usually, in the project manager salary bracket.

Who said anything about tools, I think he just wants a company truck.

If he can get a company vehicle, why not?

He may be asking just a bit more then they are willing to go, he may have to work out something, until he can prove his worth. If he is building a division from scratch 150K plus profit sharing, and benies, is not a strech. It will depend on the size, and dollar volume, the division generates.

The wage he was asking is closer to a J man with tools position, even light for that in some areas.

He can have a company vehicle, but he still has to pay income taxes on the portion of the vehicle usage not used for company business. And driving back and forth to work is not company business in the IRS's mind.

If J-box is hired as a master electrician to start an electrical division in the company I take it that they want to use his license as sponsor. If he sponsors the company as master this will require that he spend some time on the job site, he will at least have to say he does. They may hire other master electricians and this may be a full time office position but if you do a lot of traveling to job sites in Texas it's better to have a company vehicle to mess up than your own. Texas is a big state you can do a lot of driving.

as perks go, its not worth as much as it used to, but a whole lot better than using your own vehicle if you put on a lot of miles.

BTW, the company upped our mileage reimbursement last week. Now 45 cents/mile. Wish they would have done it before I turned in my last mileage report.

Im thinking some where in the $57,000 a year range, 3 weeks paid vaction, company truck, gas card, 6 paid holidays, 3 personel days, full coverage insurance for me paid by the company, this firm offers these type of benifits to thier sales men. The firm is establised with high gross sales. I would like some feed back.

Pay is excessively low IMO! Granted COL is much higher where I am, and thus so are wages. At that price you would be making what <4 year guy would be with tools on - HERE.... You need to be making what you would be paying yourself as the 'principal of company' - THERE. I too would assume at least 80K + benies if not adding a digit... Or some sort of other incentive like set bonus or profit sharing and a contract that includes a number of other things to ensure employment. You will be setting up a buisiness for them that they do not otherwise have..... Once you set it up - you need to maintain your usefull status.

He needs a professional employment contract, with buy out options, and many other protections, in short, he needs an attorney.

I think 57K is low, I would figure somewhere around 70 would be reasonable. Everything else looks OK

I think it's time for me, to go back to school, I must of read the OP post erong, I understood, he was a licensed Electrical Contractor, and an Energy company plans to start an electricial division, in short a position like this, is something he would retain an employment attorney, to develop a contract.
