A customer's Samsung microwave keeps tripping a new Siemens AFCI. It is also new wiring.
I have heard that certain brand appliances are not compatible with certain brand AFCI breakers. Any suggestions ?

Yes, tell them to send or take it back.

You did try switching afci's , didn't you? Make sure it still does it on a different breaker that is working. Also move and plug the microwave into a different circuit all together. Just to check it.

You'd hate for them to get another microwave and it still trip.

Trying a GFCI and a standard breaker will narrow down whether it's the AFCI section that's causing the problem. This will protect the installer from blame as well as direct it to the right offender.

The real question is what happens if all microwaves trip all AFCI's?

will AFCI hold with something like a hair dryer connected to it? (something with similar amp draw as the microwave)

If not you maybe have a neutral to EGC fault in wiring somewhere.
