Satellite Surge Problem

We have a customer with a DirecTV satellite system that keeps getting fried.

Basically, the dish is mounted near the meter and it shares the ground at the service entrance. Coax lines run form the dish to a multi-switch (satellite splitter). From the switch, coax lines run to the DirecTV receivers.

This switch keeps getting surges (so far they have lost 3 of them).

Multi-switches are usually the most reliable part of the system.

Any suggestions??

Install coaxial surge arrestors in line. Alpha-Delta and others make them.

I've been in amateur radio for 20 years and have had antennas as high as 100' and never lost one piece of equipment to lightning or surges. I always use arrestors in my coax lines and single point ground my station equipment.
