I have heard somewhere along the way that schedule 80 PVC only had to be 12" deep. NEC table 300.5 does not distinguish between Sched. 40 and 80.
However, column 4 of this table states that a residential branch circuit of no more than 120v, 20amp, and GFCI protected installed in underground conduit can be installed at a 12" depth. Wouldn't this permit sched 40 or 80 to be installed at 12"?

Thanks for any insight on this !

If the circuit/feeder in the PVC met the conditions of column 4, then 12" would be the minimum. Otherwise 18" minimum, regardless of Sched. 40 or 80.
