SE or conduit

Horizontal run outside the house 12 feet from meter base to where it enters basement into breaker panel.....SE ok or is conduit required....not clear to me.
 
Se Cable is allowed but in some areas they may not allow it as one can argue protection from damage. It is done very often without issue. Personally I like pvc instead.
 
Subject to physical damage ? What type of material will he be fastened to (brick, stucco, siding ??)

Never mind.. Dennis pretty well covered it.. Keep local ordinances in mind.
 
If it's run in a driveway then IMO SE is no good. Over a sidewalk where it's low enough that a snow blower or snow shovel can damage it then it's NG as well.
 
Around here (NY and new england) SE is super common. Pretty much can use it anywhere. I prefer it over PVC, its quicker, smaller, lower profile, less visible.....Hows that for two opposite opinions :D

Same here 90% of above ground all SFD services are in SE cable. Depending on the location you might see SE into the top of the meter and then a piece of conduit out the bottom.
 
Iwire loved SE cable. I have never used it exposed or even on temp poles. You do not see it around here exposed except in some really old homes.

Give me pvc anyday...:D
 
I used to prefer PVC for all my overhead electrical service uprades. About 20 years ago or so I realized that the SE cable looked much neater (beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess) ;).
Of course I still use PVC where necessary.
