Completely unnecessary introduction:
First post. I am not an electrician nor do I play one on TV. So I had to kind of fudge on the registration for the code cycle question. But this is the photovoltaic forum so maybe I'm not alone. I had no idea who Mike Holt was until 10 minutes ago, but now that I do, thanx for the forum Mike.
Question:
I'm looking for a normally closed contactor for my solar system. For the moment I'm not going to say why I want it or what it's for, because invariably someone will ask why I'd want to do such a thing, or tell me I'm an idiot for wanting to do it. So suffice it to say the contactor needs to handle up to 100 Amps of DC current.
In plain English I want the contacts on the device to normally be closed, and when the coil is energized the contacts would latch open. They MUST latch open, so if power fails the contacts won't close again. The coil needs to be 12vdc.
I've been poking around and it seems you don't find such an animal on any street corner. I found a site called gigavac but they have so many contactors and so much obscure electro-babble that my eyes glazed over.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you so much.
