Re: Seen on eBay...

Nice job. Too bad the weatherhead is below the overhead service drop. Looks like a photo for Joe Tedesco.

Re: Seen on eBay...

They have a more similar "services" offered...here's a good one:

Hire me right off of eBay!

I'm wondering...should I have a problem with this type of marketing/advertising - or should I be doing it myself?

It does seem like some kind of debasing to our industry.

Re: Seen on eBay...

I see that they removed and reinstalled the regular receptacle in the unfinished basement. I feel the need to change these to a GFI if I have to relocate them.

AND... what are those two jokers doing in that control panel without any tools? Posing for a picture, I believe.

Code or not..I also leave a recept. at the panel...I usually need one when I am working anyway (radio, battery/cellphone charger)...why not just make it a GFI ? For the $15 it is a more professional job instead of reusing some POS that was already there.

Re: Seen on eBay...

I find this borderline offensive and totally a joke.

Who in thier right mind would hire any tradesman off Ebay?? Let alone pay in full, in advance!

1200 guys in 13 loactions??? Selling themselves on Ebay? Is someone desperate for work?

Re: Seen on eBay...

I do agree, Speedy. I also found it interesting that their opening bid amount for the service upgrades wasn't too far off from what I'd charge to do the job to the specifications listed in the auction. Anything more than that would be "free money".

I did auction off services once for a charity auction, but that was a different story. It was all for the charity.

I want to know who pays the shipping :D

Re: Seen on eBay...

Given that the price of copper wire was doubled by the hurricane damage down south and there is no relief in sight, I am desperate for work.

The only work that I got this fall was a case where we could use a stock of 12/3 romex that he bought for his house 2 years ago. I had to pay $80 for 2 rolls of 12/2 romex, 1 type NM and the other UF.

Interesting enough, the price of fluorescent ballasts and copper pipe did not get manipulated.

Re: Seen on eBay...

I have been seeing these adds on Ebay for a while. I would be a little hesitant on posting one of these for fear of getting in over my head. I realize they have some disclaimers, but my luck I would get in over my head on one of these. It also seems like a tacky way of doing business.

Are you serious. Can someone provide any evidence that this method of marketing works. I could not imagine that this would get you in over your head. I think it may make you go broke, fast.

Re: Seen on eBay...

I like it. If I was in the market for this type of service, I might well buy it off of eBay.

For the seller, the cost is dirt cheap for the exposure you might get.

Re: Seen on eBay...

Another violation that seems from the photo of working space side to side the blocks are 16 inches across and the shelf seems to be 4 inches in the second block giving an appeaearance of 28 inches working area not the needed 30 inches. If you have pictures to show you surely would want them to seem correct because everybody is going to pick on them.

Re: Seen on eBay...

Actually I think this is a novel idea! What a heck of a way to advertise. Even if you don't buy their service, you may send an email for other work that needs to be done. Looks like a very cheap way to get a lot of exposure.
Personally, I would not do it, as I could not handle any work outside of my area.

Re: Seen on eBay...

I must admit that I did look up the company's main website, as I was curious if they actually had 13 locations and 1200 employees. I must admit, it is one of the finest electrician websites that I have seen in a very long time.

Re: Seen on eBay...

Anybody here work for them?

Also, FYI, another payment-receiving alternative is PAYPAL.
Their fees are not that bad, and you can set it up to receive credit card payments.

If a customer has internet access, they can pay you online to your paypal account.
You can have the money deposited in your bank account, or have it held in your Paypal account. They also have an intrest bearing account.

Lady :)
why would it not be legal?
I'm saying that if they provide adequate service, and deliver quality service as specified. I'm all for it! :)

By the way everyone have a safe and happy memorial day!! :)

Bob
For one thing here in NJ any advertisement or offer for service must include the company name and license number or business permit number. I'm sure our Board of Electrical Contractors would have something to say about this. I've heard stories that people have sent them letters on a company letterhead without a license number on it and received a return letter with a fine for failing to have the number on the letterhead.
