Our company has done 50 or 60 six plex units this past year or so. (I think some have been 8 plexes). I noticed that they have been using 6 (or 8) separate services per building. The service is a meter with a main breaker, and a mlo sub-panel inside the units. These meter mains are probably 30-40' apart, is this legal? Each one has a separate lateral back to the transformer? Also they have been driving a separate ground rod for each service?

Re: Separate Services

Multiple services are allowed according to 230.2 (A)(B)(C)or(D)...

If the units are separated by firewalls, then they are considered seperate buildings.

A separate electrode is also allowed at each building.

Bonding of the separate electrodes is allowed, but not required.
