I am looking at a job to repair fire damage to a detached 3 unit building that had a 3 wire sub panel .This building is a motel with several seperate or detached 3 unit buildings. When I rewire 1 building do I need to refeed sub panel with 4 wire to seperate grounds & netraul.I am thinking because it is detached building I can drive grounds & bond all grounded conductors together.

You will have to separate the grounds and neutrals and also establish a grounding electrode system. Run the GEC from the grounding bar to the grounding electrode. Do not connect the neutral and grounds together.

You are permitted to run a feeder without a grounding conductor and treat the feeder like service only where no metallic paths exist between the building being fed to the building where the feeder is coming from. That situation just about doesn't exist. :D

Charlie you say the situation doesnt exist is this because phone&cable? arent theye isolated from gec doesnt 250.32(2) say to bond netraul&grounds?

Re: seperate grnd for sub panl detached bldng

after reading what I wrote I see it is obvious cable and phones are bonded to grounding system
