Most houses around here have 2 circuits run for the for the septic system. Both go to a control panel, one circuit is for controls and the other is for a 120v(typical) pump. I am wondering if on the 2020 code these should be on a GFCI or AFCI or both? The circuits usually always are pulled out of the main house panel, that's why I ask about AFCI. The control panel has its own OCPD's for both controls and pump if that makes any difference. They are almost always located outdoors by the tank.

thanks!

Neither. And if your control panel has OCPD’s, it likely needs one circuit from the service. Typically those are unit mount breakers inside and the panel will distribute the incoming feed.

I know the last few of these I’ve done required a 20A 120/240v line.

The pedestal type I’ve wired did take one 20A 120v for pump, and a 15A 120v for alarm.
