hi folks. south wire is not to be buried in ground or in conduit right! but it does carry a fire rating and a moister barrier on the three jacketed wires its just the ground that is exposed . that's why it cannot be buried because even in schedule 40 conduit its considered a wet source /or place . my question is this (mhf wire ) I have a hard time finding it .a local electric supply store sold me the ser wire at 100 feet they said to just bury it . I ordered the mhf and was told that it was in drove 2-1/2 hours to my summer place the wire was wrong it was urd did not buy it . went down the street and the next electrical supply store said they could no get it until the end of next week. They asked what I was using it for .I told them 100 amp subpanel in a garage off a 200 amp main panel in my summer house. said you could not place it in the ground in conduit or straight burial . but what I could do was strip off the outer jacket and get rid of the ground and buy 100 feet of #2 thwn I then used green electrical tape to make a ground and black tape to hold it all together. Now all 4 wires have a fire rating and moister rating . in pvc conduit 18. inches bellow grade . need to run conduit in both house and garage . long story. tell me if this is ok . oh Lowes and home depot don't carry mhf any more so they say .
