I'll try. The terms apply to the systems available fault current. All the components must be able to safely operate taking the fault current into consideration. overcurrent devices are rated as to the AIC they can safely handle. If each and every component in the system has the full capability to carry that current, such as 65,000, then the system is fully rated. Through testing, manufacturers have been able to develop systems that will safely protect even when the "downstream" devices are rated less than the full number (a 22,000 breaker might be in the panel which has a 65,000 main and still be capable of handing the current). These systems are "series rated"
