To the salesman the support staff is the install guys. What do they get for busting their humps to make sure the salesman get's his bonus?

From what I see most of the time, especially for construction related selling - the only one that maybe gets anything is the crew supervisor. Most of the time they are pushed hard to get done as quick as possible, and in doing so there are mistakes made and they have to come back and fix those mistakes, that fact gets more negative attention from the management then the fact they usually busted their balls to get done in a somewhat unrealistic time schedule.

I will say better pay, more positive rewards, etc. in many cases would still increase productivity as well as accuracy though. Treat your staff like crap, and you get crap for results. Then they have the nerve to complain they can't get good help.

I would have a hard time getting behind guys who get paid incentives for service calls. You would REALLY have to trust that your guys know where to draw the line.

We have a local HVAC company in town who uses the same method for service calls. We've heard ourselves and from other HVAC contractors that have come behind them that this other company frequently recommends replacing equipment when it can simply be repaired for much cheaper. They've made a bad name for themselves in this town and are having a hard time staying afloat.
