I was curious if anyone else has ever done this? Was on a service call and the customer wants a bonding bridge placed in their data closet to bleed off any static or surge that may originate outside the residence. Can a #4 or #6 be fed from the “Ufer” or bonded at the service to a bonding bridge in the Data Closet? 2014 code.

Typical spec you’ll see in commercial buildings is a copper plate bus mounted on the backboard. IT guys will bond their racks to it.

You could use a #14 wire but that won't have enough "Wow Factor". A fellow can usually get away with #6 if the insulation color is green. If the insulation is black then you'll have to use green phase tape and you might have to go all the way up to 3/0 wire. And make sure you tape up at least a foot of the wire on each end with perfectly overlapping wraps or you'll only achieve an 8 out of 10 on the Wow Factor scale. Anything below a 9 is a fail. Crimp on connectors instead of landing in a lug can get you 1.5 to 2 points on the Wow Factor scale and you might get away with #8 wire as long as the insulation is green.

Have you guys ever heard of only installing the ground wire in the down position and not making the connection above what you are grounding such as a lightning arrestor on a cat5 cable.

Example I ran ground wire from arrestor up to another ground connection and was told better to go straight down because the lightning has to run back up before it goes down……. Does this actually make a difference?
