Re: Service call $$$

I am in the wash dc area and the going rate around here seems to be about 15-18 for a good helper, 20 to 30 for a journey man and up to $40 for a master who is working on a job but not running the job.
Hourly rate runs from $60 to $125/ hr. 200 amp heavy up goes for a low of $1200 and can run as high as $2500 for the exact same piece of work if you get a large company.
A 4 unit apt bldg we recently bidded at $7000.

Re: Service call $$$

In Wash DC, the pay rate for Union electricians is higher than AC mechs, and plumbers. However, these firms get more per hour than electrical contractors do for commercial service. Additionally the residential electrical contractors pay their men less than commercial electricians but charge more per hour. I realize there is some extra cost associated with running resisdential service, like dealing with home owners!

Non-Union and Union electrical service contractors charge close to the same hourly rate for service. While their men make different wages, as much as a $10.00 gap, not including the benefits, not sure any non-union contractors match the benefits of the Union companies.

I would be glad to go over my benefits at the merit shop I work at with you via PMs.

Our benefit package exceeds the local by a long shot and I pay no dues.

It easily balances out the wage gap, which for us is not close to $10.00.

Maybe that's why there aren't enough men to handle the available work

Re: Service call $$$

My partner and I figure plumbers get more because when you have a leak or worse when the drain backs up you have to get it fixed. When a circuit goes out you can us a $5 extension cord.

How about this one. I used to work at a supply house and we had trouble with our A.C. unit above the cieling. We called the repair man. He did not have a ladder long enough to get to the unit. Neither did we. (I might have fixed it myself if we did) So he left without doing anything and sent us bill for a service call!
