Service Entrance ATS mounted inside garage?

Backing up an entire residential main panel with a service-entrance rated ATS (ie. utility input to ATS directly from service meter load-side lugs), customers don't want ATS outside next to their front door, imagine that!
I imagine ATS mount inside garage is ok, just obeying the five-foot rule for unfused conductors? Anyone done this?

Same here. last one I did was new construction and I recessed it beside the 2 panels

Sounds fine as long as it complies with 230.70(A)(1). Although it may be a local limitation the NEC has no 5' limit.
