It could be if you support the SE with a messenger for the 'air' portion.

Take a look at 338.10((B)(4)(b)
Then go to Art 396.
SE Cable cannot justed be installed between buildings without some type of messenger support.

Then, since that messenger is an "other metallic path", wouldn't you need to use SER instead of SE? Just thinking out loud here? I don't install aerial stuff in SE or SER anyhow. I swtich to ACSR for the overhead portion, with H-Taps.

Maybe it's a 120 volt circuit.
I also agree with the ACSR suggestion.
It sure could be assuming he does not run a non-conductive messenger.

396 requires the messenger wire to be grounded, but is there a requirement to bond it to the grounding systems on BOTH structures rather than just bonding it to the supplying structure's grounding system and NOT creating an "other metallic path" with it in the first place?
