Hello,
I am installing a generator and I am curious when does the transfer switch have to be service rates? Also when does a panelboard have to be services rated othere than when it is obviously a service?

Wouldn't it only have to be service rated if it was between the main panel OCPD and a service disconnect or meter base?

It doesn't have to be service rated. A service rated transfer switch has the service OCP/disconnect built in to the unit. You can install a non service rated switch but there must be a service rated disconnect between the meter and ATS.
