Is it ok to use al/cu split bolts instead of compression lugs on service conductors on a service drop? I wouldn't use split bolts, but a coworker told me that he used split bolts for a service connection in the past.
If rated for CU/AL and that is what you're using - either is fine....
However - and you don't need to answer to satisfy the scourge of the "Don't work Live" and PPE people - but if doing it live - Isulated compression barrels would be slightly safer to handle.....
Since in my area any connection NOT done by the POCO is considered "Temporary" by the POCO.... (Even though "Temporary can mean a decade or more....) But it mater not what I put up there so long as it is not a wire nut - which I see done entirely too often....
I normally uses these - expensive - but quick and easy.... No need to strip, just crank the nut until it torques off. I also use split-bolts, Polaris insulated lugs, and compression connectors depending on my mood... But for many many years it was split-bolts, and rubber mastic and fabric tape...
