What code reference gives a distance from the point where service conductors enter the building to the service disconnecting means?
I have read Section 230 and the only thing I have found was 230-70.a, but it doesn't give the distance. I was looking for 5FT???

No distance given but it does say "nearest the point of entrance of service conductors". This does not leave much wiggle room.

Local codes often will limit the distance. In Washington State its 15 feet. I have heard others at 3-5-10 feet.

This has never been a concern because the service equipment has always been on an outside wall. Now they want to put it on a wall perpendicular to the outside wall. I have always heard 5FT, I will check the local codes to be sure. Thanks.

Done here, it wouldn't be a problem. I have heard of places where that installation would be turned down. It really doesn't meet the Code. :D
