Service mast conductor sizing

Hello I have a 83 fla vertical well pump on a ranch. We installed a 200 amp meter on a service pole feeding a 150 amp fusible disconnect. My question is do the service mast conductors have to be rated to the meter can or the load being served.

A 200 amp meter base just means it is capable of supporting 200 amps non continuous or 160 amps continuous. The only thing to be carefully about is the minimum size conductor the lugs are listed for. I believe you will be fine with 150 amp conductors.

For a single service disconnect, the conductors need to be sized to the service's overcurrent device (next size up rule is allowed ) . If the conductors were feeding 2-6 disconnects, then they only need be sized to the load

Thank you for the responses. I bought enough
1/O thhn to go all the way to the weatherhead but had someone tell me I couldn't use it because the meter can was 200 amp and I needed to use 2/O. That would be fine but I already have the 1/O here.

They dont know what they are talking about. Not only is their theory wrong, but 2/0 would not be good for 200 amps anyway, since it is rated at 175 amps, which is a standard size OCPD. You could even use #1 which is 130 amps, because that rounds up to the next standard size which is 150.

Is this a service supplying a single load?

If so conductors need to be minimum ampacity of 125% of applicable full load current listed in tables at end of art 430.

Overcurrent protection for motor applications can leave you with higher then "usual" overcurrent device on a conductor - but the motor overload protection device still protects the motor as well as the supply conductors from overloading conditions that are not short circuits or ground faults.
