320 amp service with 2 200 panels located adjacent to one another. Say you install a gentran panel on one side of one of the panels. If say you locate the gentran on the left may you run some of the circuits from the r/h panel and thru the l/h panel to the gen tran In other words can the panel be used as a raceway?

Re: service panel as raceway.

It`s late and i can`t find it but I seem to remember that if circuits are from a panel then it is fine to reroute them through that panel and not another even though they are on the same service.Could be wrong but I am sure by the A.M. someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Re: service panel as raceway.

Look at 312.8 Enclosures for switches or overcurrent devices.

Enclosures for switches and overcurrent devices shall not be used as junction boxes, auxiliary gutters, or raceways for conductors feeding through or tapping off to other switches or overcurrent devices, unless adequate space for this purpose is provided. The conductors shall not fill the wiring space at any cross section to more than 40 percent of the cross-sectional area of the space.

In general, your install should be fine and using a panel for a raceway is perfectly legal. I have never seen a panel exceed its 40% fill.
