Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the plans are approved and they clearly indicate 225A MLO panels are to be installed, there is no other choice but to install 225A or greater MLO panels. If the feeders and their ocp are not specified, they can be as low as Code allows for the calculated load (200A and 135A according to OP'er).

That would be an issue between designer and installer and not necessarily a code issue.

Hmmm... you're leaving the AHJ out of the picture. Once AHJ approves plans, it is my understanding installed equipment cannot be lesser rated without resubmission or a deviation approval. I'm not saying it can't be done per Code.

Of course we are talking residential plans here, so AHJ plans approval may not be required.

I agree. As I stated before you have to accommodate what the drawings say, despite what might be more rational, efficient, or convenient.

If you lived around here you would be asking "what plans approval?"

AHJ here doesn't care what designer has specified, they inspect to NEC only.
