Service riser clearance question

Installing a 200 amp meter socket for residential. I understand the clearances for the overhead drip loop and service conductors from windows etc.

Inspector tells me that the 2" rigid conduit (riser) must be a min. 3' clearance from window. In another town the conduit riser may pass alongside windows etc.

230.9 doesn't specify riser clearances, checked out comed website, no specs for risers either unless I missed something.

what say you?

I agree that there is no NEC requirement for a service drop riser conduit to be any specific distance from a window. The clearance specified in 230.24 are for the service drop conductors not the riser conduit.

If the serving utility doesn't have a prohibition to the location and there are no local codes prohibiting it, I would say you are OK.

In my area, the location of the riser is not the concern... it's the location of the conductors outside the weatherhead that's the concern. 36" is the minimum distance from the operating portion of the window. The pipe poses no shock or burn hazard. The riser can be right next to a window, but the wires outside the w'head must be 3' away.

Case in point:

Riser is only 16" from lower window, but 38" from upper one.
