Have service switchboard being demolished and replace with new. They want the panelboards being fed from switchboard to remain live and be temp'ed out. The new gear is going in same place as existing( guess that matters?) Few questions.

1. would you use the incoming power from the utility to power up a temp board to feed panelboards?
2. Where would Coned's(the utility) disconnecting meaning so they can shut power off? Vault?

REMOVE EXISTING MAIN SERVICE SWITCHBOARD.

If those panelboards are MLO, you'll need to provide OCP and a 1200A OCP device could be costly for a temp. Second, you should look at the ConEd blue book and see what their requirements are or give them a call.

Could you do several shutdowns and disconnect/interrupt the incoming power in stages( several shutdowns) and use those intercepted sets to feed several temp boards/panels...? Asking because shutdowns can't be more than 3 hours( it's feeding occupied building).

So say

What's the actual load? If that's only 500a on a 1200a panel things will be a bit easier.

Might be able to rent one from Sunbelt/Cat-Power/etc. With a 3-hour shutdown window (weekends?) you could simply rent a generator and the entire temp kit if you can do the demo/install/commission fast enough.

What is between the old service and ConEd? Is there an end box where you can tap off the existing conductors?
