Hey all, customer has a building on a main street that they want new services put on. The services are currently on the back of the building, they would like them moved to side to get them out of the alley. By services I mean 2, its 1 building, but it is split in half, it has 2 store fronts, 2 addresses and a permanent wall dividing them. At first I was fine with it, we'd put 2 meter/breaker combos outside and new panels inside.
Only hiccup, I remembered code 230.3, service conductors can't pass through one building to supply another. And that was the plan, the far half of the building service would run through the near side half. I can't put the service for the other half on the other side, that isn't accessible, I've only got the back, and 1 side.
So I'm kind of split on this one applies here, on one hand it is one building/structure, but, on the other hand, technically as far as the city goes its 2. And I could see down the road some day, one half gets sold off from the other, now their neighbors service is running through their building. Thoughts?
