It figures a devils fan would jump to that conclusion after being beaten down by the Rangers twice in preseason... Just kidding around,

I don't think that you should be comparing the upper echelon NHL Devils to a second rate organization like the Rangers.:D

It's nice to see that we can have different points of view without a free-for-all :)

Do you take the job?
I'm not a Devils fan (or any other kind of fan for that matter) but I'm with Celtic on this one. It's one thing to be competitive and shave a $100.00 or so off your price but quite another to cut your price by $900.00. If the normal going price in your area is $2200.00 why leave $900.00 on the table ? Is the job for your neighbor or a relative ? I guess the key here is finding a mechanic to do the work for $160.00. The going price in my area is double that. If he's that good though, make sure that part of the $65.00 in your overhead includes buying him lunch and a limo to pick him up and drive him home. You'll still make $500.00.

Try getting a plumber for less than a $100.00/hr service call. How is it that they keep the prices up in their industry and we're out there working in one of the most dangerous businesses and we're cutting each others throats ?

In response to your question "Would I take the job" my answer is no. And I say that not only for myself but for the industry. If you were destitute with your family living in squalor I could understand why you would take the job but I can't believe that's the case. It's my belief that you'll get more quality new and repeat business operating at an upper eschelon than you would making small $$ at the lower end.

BTW, although this forum is for people like us who work in the trade, there are others that can view without the privilidge of posting. Now that you've posted your costs and profit margin for all to see you might as well put an ad in the Yellow Pages that says "SpeedyStevie - 200 amp services for $1300.00 - anytime - anywhere". You should be a millionaire in a few years (as long as you can keep your $160.00/day mechanic).

Some people should just relax. I don't live my life worrying and stressing about my competitors or what others charge. My business is my business and if I choose to drop a price here and there I can, because again, its MY business.

I think I might take your suggestion and put that add in the paper. I will let you know how it works out. I might even give away for free one service upgrade each month just for the hell of it, because i am a nice guy.

Are you really unable to find a $20 an hr jurneyman who can change out a 200Amp upgrade. Last I checked not that much rocket sience involved in a 200amp residential upgrade.
