New construction. House will have a service pedestal with a 200A breaker about 20 feet from house. To size the wires from pedestal to house panel can I use table 310.15(B7) which would allow 2/0 copper or do I have to use table 310.15(B)(16) which would indicate 3/0 copper would be necessary? Our state is using the 2011 NEC.

You can use table 310.15(B7) and 2/0 as long as the panel you are feeding is carrying the entire load of the house.

Where I live you could use the table and #4 copper if landed in a 100A service disco since the meter pedestals are owned by the POCO and all have 200A breakers in them.

Can be done elsewhere, too!

The only difference is whether the pedestal breaker is the service disconnecting means or not... and that difference amounts to running an EGC or not.

Glad to know other parts of the country are up to speed.

That changed here in '11. Before that the service disco was always at the building and for the breaker at the pedestal did not exist in the eyes of the AHJ since it is owned by the POCO. Too bad because there really is no need for the extra wire. It is what it is though.

Thanks guys for your opinion. The pedestal in this case is owned by the homeowner and with the 200A breaker would be considered the service disconnect in this area. My next question is could the EGC run from the pedestal to the house be #6 copper? I have previously only worked with the meter base and meter attached to the house and the service disconnect is in the panel in the house.
