Service work Rates.

I have this company that requests service work. And they are saying they are getting from a company called Network Electricians Rates. From 45 to 55 per hour. I myself in the mid 90's. How are they doing this for such low rates.
By the way. Has anyone got calls from a USM Maintianance for these types of requestss?

By the way we are in Central New Jersey.

No, and Yes. I have had to reduce my service rates from last year. I have found I am way on the other side of the supply demand curve. I try to be just to the right side of top but the demand dropped way down changing how much supply should cost. As the insurance commercial says "if we cant increase the value of our service we can increase the value of our price."
USM, yup they have called, and yes I have even gotten paid by them. I have had a few service companies call. So far I haven't gotten a warm and fuzzy feeling about any of them. One I have heard about was not licensed to do work in my state and now have issues. One is still calling about emergency work they called about last year. Its a crap shoot. I prefer to deal with the owner of a property and not be a sub sub sub contractor. It makes it an interesting proposition to get paid when you cant represent yourself as having done the work.
The one thing I think is best when dealing with service companies is written communication. Get a credit card up front and process the fee when done. Make clear investigative costs are separate from the service call. Get them to OK the service agreement with an addendum to allow you to collect from all parties if not paid within 30 days. This might be a deal killer but will open up the conversation on payment. I think they make a percentage on the gross. Book rates of some sort may be easier to negotiate then them telling you how much they will pay for unknown problems. If they are calling you they are calling others, if you can get an exclusivity agreement for your area if it works out. Good luck. USM has been OK to work with so far. I have only done 2 jobs for USM. Both jobs have been good for a days worth of work. They have paid within 60 days. I feel uncomfortable being a sub sub sub contractor only because it puts me at a disadvantage.
 
Not to dogpile on your thread, but how about NRGC? I believe that they are out of Kansas. I just did some troubleshooting for them at a retail store in the mall and I didn't properly vet them like I normally would. This thread is making me wonder.

How About That!? about 6 weeks after i finished a job, they got back to me after leaving them about 6 messages, and they were running up against the billing deadline w/ petco :/

Also worked for a NEC Building services anyone heard of them?
 
I'm in NJ also but I haven't heard of this company you speak of. Although I have been getting job offers at low rates. Basically the jobs are passing through several consulting firms and then down to me. I refused to do the work even though I'm slow.

I just can't see making half of what I should be making because some guy who makes phone calls wants to take 60% of the money allocated for the job. It's a shame but someone out there will do it for nothing. If we all said no they would have to pay the going rate.

Oh BTW their contract said that if I didn't send in the invoice and all job information with digital pics within 10 days of completion they did not have to pay the invoice at all... ever!

Yea. the if you dont produce the right evidence I'm not obligated to pay clause. And do tell what did they do with my invoice when they got it ?? USM is also Wheaton Services inc. out of NYC. :cool:
I can understand why you would want to hire a one stop shop to validate your service needs but I cant understand why you would not keep track of who they hire. Ive seen property mgt companies go right down the drain on the husband wife team sucking the well of assets dry with phony work orders and in house coveting. I even had a property management company ask for a 10% kick back on property they managed and had a sworn fiduciary responsibility toward because "they handled the money". $ chi-ching $

Can anyone comment on these companies. They set DNE (Dont Not exceed $175.00). Should include time, Materials Tax. Tolls fuel. Office paperwork.
30 miles to 40 miles + travel.

Anyone input on these companies. They all combining.

We work with NEC all the time and never had any issues with billing or payment.
 
I invoiced retail maintenance dec 31,08 for a paint display repair at HD , still havent seen the check . If I wasnt going to submit an invoice or they didnt get it I would get emails, faxes and phone calls asking for the invoice. nothing like that this time.In the past they had paid , I know they got the invoice as I never recieved calls that the Invoice didnt arrive.

Retail Maintenance called the other night. After about 10-15 minutes of gathering the information, etc the lady asks what our hourly rate was. I tell her, she puts me on hold for 10 more minutes, comes back on says my boss says to find somebody cheaper. I said good luck and good bye.
If RM is price shopping, they'll get what they pay (or not) for!
