We installed a sewage ejector pump system. The pump has a sealed cord that plugs into a 20 amp/250v single receptacle. The receptacle and pump are located on the outside of the building.

Does the pump need to be protected by a GFCI breaker?

Thanks

I don't see anything requiring it in 2008 NEC 210.8

Thank for the replies. The 2 pole 20 amp GFI breaker looked like a tough item to find.

Why would a 240 receptacle not require a GFI while a 120 does?

In general, the probability that a person might be holding, or otherwise touching, a 120 volt device, at the time it experiences an internal failure, is a vast great deal higher than the probability that a person might be holding, or otherwise touching, a 240 volt device, at the time it experiences an internal failure.
