the recepticle is outside?
that is all you need to know.
required
Or maybe it is NOT all you need to know.
I don't see anything requiring it in 2008 NEC 210.8We installed a sewage ejector pump system. The pump has a sealed cord that plugs into a 20 amp/250v single receptacle. The receptacle and pump are located on the outside of the building.
Does the pump need to be protected by a GFCI breaker?
Yup, the 250 volt removes the GFCI requirement.
That's because 240 is safer than 120 LOL
I think that Jim knows that anyone could unplug a 120 volt plug and plug in something else. That's not going to happen if the receptacle is 250 volts.![]()
In general, the probability that a person might be holding, or otherwise touching, a 120 volt device, at the time it experiences an internal failure, is a vast great deal higher than the probability that a person might be holding, or otherwise touching, a 240 volt device, at the time it experiences an internal failure. Why would a 240 receptacle not require a GFI while a 120 does?
