Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

Peter, I think you're way off base as far as the MWBC, but as far as the RMC is concerned, I must say that is a very responsible attitude. :D

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

I lost a neutral in a multiwre circuit and a few T.V. sets along with some VCR equiment burned up. I just happen to be up in a drop ceiling and moved some MC cable and the the loose connection in the J box let go and the next thing The equiment in the room started to smoke because of the over voltage.

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

If you didn't open the box I think you have to blame that on "very" poor workmanship.

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

That's why one of the first things I do is head stright to the panel to see if there are any MWBC's, if there is I turn off at least one of the circuits on each before messing with anything. ;)

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

Hope you check to see who`s on that circuit ;) Had a boss back when I was a baby electrician that hit the button on a 2000 a main at the brooklyn union gas company and they lost all the data for the week  $$$$$$$$$$$$

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

I don't mean the liability of turning somebody off.

I mean if you wiggle a box that wouldn't have been wiggled if you didn't go wiggle it because you happened to be an electrician who happened to be near it who happened to touch it, when everything would have been fine if you didn't happen to be there doing something entirely unrelated?

Re: Shared Neutrals in dimming circuits

Sam, I think it would be our unwitting liability, because everyone would believe you were just trying to escape fault. Given the oddity of the overvoltage problem with MWBC's, it would really sound like a fable to non-electricians. :(

Wayne, the secret is, never really turn that somebody on in the first place. No liability. Soldiering on to month three... :( :D
