shared neutrals

I have 7 20A/120V GFI receptacles wired in an 8' long raceway using 2 12g hot wires, 1 12g neutral and 1 12g ground. I have 3 receptacles on 1 hot and 4 on the other. Is there a code either premitting this or against this method. I am being told that in this case you would have to up the gauge on the neutral. Also I have noticed that neutral wires tend to be a little oversized that the hots. Is this to compinsate for such an instence.

Re: shared neutrals

Sounds fine to me. In this case the neutral carries only unbalanced load assuming the hot conductors are not on the same leg.

Re: shared neutrals

If this is for a computer installation, the specifications may require an oversized neutral to deal with harmonics.
