My other question remains: what is generally plugged into this receptacle?

IMO the requirement was probably put in place to feed signs that people hang in the windows.

The requirement probably helps prevent things like this

Those are high voltage neon cables dropping down to signs.

Back to 'what is a show window'

Any window can be....here is a show window.

Now was it a show window at the time of construction?

Only the inspector could answer that. ;)

Trevor I am not being a wise guy but what does that mean?

Does that mean they are not required or does that mean it's not being enforced?

Given the definition of show windows IMO it is just a lack of enforcement.

Remember the definition starts with Any window

If you walk down 5th Ave in New York you will see stores with show windows (like the photo Cletic posted) and you will see office buildings with 20' high glass windows. The office building windows are not being used of designed for the display of goods or advertising material. It is an office building. A store would have a completely different perspective. A store window along 5th Ave would have thousands of people passing it everyday and would likely be used to display goods or advertising. I see a big difference in the two windows. One will be used (show window) as the article 100 definition implies for the display or advertising the office building window will not.

And for the record Bob, I didn't think that you were beig a wiseguy. I like the fact that you keep most of us on our toes. ;)

I mostly agree with you Trevor, I was just trying to point out that show windows are not limited to stores and bars. :)

Say an office building has a dentist office on the first floor with a window they plan on hanging a sign in, that would be an office with a show window.

Tattoo shop, tax preparers office, travel agencies, restaurants, even a post office could all require show window outlets.

We don't generally include show window outlets in most offices but we can not say that no offices require them. :)

I agree. My point was that not all windows are created equal. Some will be some show windows, some won't. Someone needs to figure out if a window in a building is or isn't a show window.
