Hello every one:

I have a question regarding shunt trip breakers for equipments under commercial kitchen hood; We have many shunt trip breakers in one panel and I'm not sure what does activate these shunt trips breaker, is it a signal from Ansul system control panel or the signal should come from the fire Alarm control panel?

Thanks,
Sam

It should be from the Ansul system micro switch however, it may need to go through a relay first depending on the number of functions that are being controlled from the switch.

Simply, it's a tripping voltage from a NO terminal on a microswitch that had power on its common terminal.

Make sure the shunt-trips can withstand constant energization if the tripping voltage remains after the trip occurs.

They can, you just had some bad luck.
I have, but some ST breakers come with warnings that the coil should not be continuously energized.

To assure this doesn't happen, have the voltage supplied by a ST breaker itself, or use aux. contacts.
