Probably just a phase you're going through!Referring to the conductors as phases is simply the third phase of my nefarious plan to replace all nouns with 'phase'.

Oops, looks like I "Synched" my post with you!We should give Jon some slack about this. I think he's just going through a phase and he'll get over it.

I believe you do have single phase supply from three phase systems as well.We Brits have it easy!
Yes, we single phase from three phase systems but not very often. The ones I have seen are demonstration units. And yes, you are right - domestic residences are just 230Vac and commercial/industrial are usually 400Vac. In my case it has often heavy industrial at 11kW and 132kW.I believe you do have single phase supply from three phase systems as well.
The simplicity part is you mostly only have only one common utilization voltage here.
Yes, they were definitely in phase.Oops, looks like I "Synched" my post with you!
Doesn't those commercial and industrial sites still have single phase loads that operate at 230 and they just operate those from line to neutral of the three phase supply? Or a large multifamily complex may possibly get three phase supply but only one line and neutral supply each individual dwelling?Yes, we single phase from three phase systems but not very often. Quite often industrial plants use 110Vac lighting circuits. Typically paper mills or petroleum plants.Doesn't those commercial and industrial sites still have single phase loads that operate at 230 and they just operate those from line to neutral of the three phase supply? Indeed! But we still use bayonet screw bulbs rather than Edison screw bulbs. What!?! 110VAC in the UK?!? The horrors
