Single phase outlet on 3 phase circuit

They are moving a machine that is run infrequently, and has a 3 phase 20 amp circuit (208/120 panel). Now they want me to add a neutral and a 120 volt convenience outlet at the same location. Is this allowed in the NEC? I am not sure where to look.

I don't see any issues. There is no rule that says you cannot reuse old wiring. You will have to run a new white wire though unless there is already one there.

So are you asking if you may use a 3 pole breaker to serve a 120V load?

What is the amperage of the machine and what is the "expected" load on the convenience receptacle?

Your proposed setup is common in HVAC/refridgeration installs.

Edit: I think I misread the question. Is the machine no longer going to be on the circuit and you are just repurposing the conductors?

This is the new location, so the circuit would be handling both loads, but not at the same time (the 3 phase machine is labeled 0.9 kw). The 120 volt outlet would be used just during maintenance operations, or perhaps for the vacuum cleaner.
